HOW TO FIND AND CHOOSE A NICHE FOR YOUR WEBSITE BLOG OR ONLINE BUSINESS

Getting a blog up and running is so easy that even non-techies can do it. Blogs exist for various reasons, but mostly it is to provide information on specific niches and earn some cash from it through advertising, affiliate marketing, digital products, and so on. Blogs can be single-niche or multi-niche.

NICHE MEANING

A niche is just an elegant term for the blog topic. The online audience can be segmented according to products and services they are interested in, and if you are confident about a particular topic, you can blog about it and serve specific segments of the online audience. That is your blog niche.

Blog niche matters because it determines the level of SEO (Search Engine Optimization) you will be doing. Different niches have different SEO needs.

NICHE-SPECIFIC BLOGS RANK HIGHER EASILY ON SEARCH ENGINE RESULTS.

Search engines love when there’s some sense of specialization. A niche specific blog covers one particular topic but does so 100 percent thoroughly. For example, a plumbing website easily ranks higher than a general home improvement blog for search terms related to plumbing.

Even further, a site dedicated to water heaters will rank higher easily than the plumbing blog for search terms related to water heaters.

So, every time you want to rank higher on search engine results, make your blog niche-specific, and cover the topic 100 percent thoroughly. But even more important, find a profitable niche to blog about.

LET ME EXPLAIN.

Find your passion and just write about it,’ that’s what you are told, but in as much as blogging is exciting, many new blogs don’t even last a couple of months. Simply blogging about topics you love is not enough. When it comes to online business, finding a profitable niche is a key to success. Successful websites are those dedicated to blogging about popular topics such as:

· Health and Fitness

· Personal Finance

· Fashion

· Lifestyle

· Business and Marketing

· Technology and Gaming

· Travel

HOW TO CHOOSE A NICHE

The above-mentioned niches are very lucrative to blog about, and you can even narrow down to your general area of interest by taking different angles and approaches. Just pick up a pen and piece of paper and start writing down ideas that pop in your head about the above topics, or any other, and if you can do so easily, that’s what you should be blogging about. But before you jump into it, consider the following tips.

1. CAN YOU WRITE ABOUT THE TOPIC CONFIDENTLY?

Do you have enough knowledge to blog about the topic? By enough knowledge, I do not mean expert level know-how, just enough knowledge about the niche so you can blog about it confidently. After all, your blog’s niche has to be a topic you are comfortable with, so you can approach it from different angles and challenge your online audiences’ beliefs and points of view. When starting, select the topic you enjoy blogging, learning, and talking about.

2. HOW EASY IS IT TO MAKE MONEY FROM THE NICHE?

While it is possible to make money on all sorts of blog topics, some niches don’t require heavy monetization and, therefore, easy to profit from than others. For example, visual types of blogs speak for themselves; if you know a particular craft that others are interested in, don’t be shy blogging about it. You will do better with the craft blog than with an uninteresting topic.

3. NICHE SIZE MATTERS – DON’T GO TOO BROAD JUST YET.

Niche size determines competition and, therefore, the level of SEO work you will be required to do. You can tell how competitive the topic is by the number of Google search results you get after searching it.

If the topic is too broad, i.e., too many websites competing for it, try a related subject. You will find a related topic by scrolling down the search engine results page. Pick a term from list, go to AdWords Keyword Planner and analyze it: How many searches does it receive per month? What is the level of competition? You don’t want to lose targeting everyone when you could excel by targeting specific people using related topics/search terms.

4. ARE YOU COMFORTABLE BEING PERSONALLY ASSOCIATED WITH THE TOPIC?

When blogging about controversial but hot topics, some have opted to do so anonymously to protect their public image; if you decide to follow this path, keep in mind that monetizing an anonymous blog isn’t easy.

There you go, blogging enthusiasts; the key to running a successful blog is to find a profitable niche. Otherwise, you risk following the path of both great and small blogs we’ve seen come and go because they couldn’t find a profitable online niche to serve.
